Chinese manufacturer Huawei has announced two new devices at a launch event in Munich, the Mate 9 and the Porsche design Huawei Mate 9. The collaboration with the German car manufacturer follows Huawei’s earlier collaboration with German classic camera manufacturer, Leica on the Huawei P9.

Huawei Mate 9

The Mate 9 is roughly the same size as an iPhone 7 Plus, but sports a giant 5.9-inch display, better than iPhone 7 Plus. Huawei claims it created the fastest mobile processor ever, an octa-core Kirin 960 system-on-a-chip, and equipped the Mate 9 with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Yes, it’s dual SIM, but you can swap one SIM for a microSD card for another 256 gigs of memory.

Then there was an audible gasp in the audience when €1,395 (around £1,200, $1,500, AU$2,000) appeared above Yu’s head - the insane price of this upgraded phone.

A Huawei rep at the event confirmed for komputerswiat that the company wants to bring the Porsche model experience to the masses and a similar model is in the works already. It will be cheaper than the standard Mate 9 probably due to the smaller screen and size, but it will have the similar curved design and screen as the Mate 9 Porsche Design. Maybe the Huawei Mate 9 Pro is still happening under a different format, say Huawei Mate S2.
