The high-performance Huawei Mate 9 is headed to Australia on February 7, and it's looking to fill the Note 7-shaped hole in your pocket.

Huawei Mate 9

That's a release date ahead of Mobile World Congress at the end of February, possibly giving Huawei enough time to beat Samsung's next mobile to market, expected anywhere between an March and May.

The Huawei Mate 9 features a 5.9 inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, making it really great for watching videos and reading PDFs or any form of reading material. And though it only features 1080p, the screen is great. Its screen is nice and bright outdoors and colors are vibrant but not too over the top.

As for its camera, the Huawei Mate 9 Pro packs a second generation Leica dual-lens camera with a 12-megapixel RGB sensor, a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and Hybrid Zoom, which gives the camera 2x magnification.

The Mate 9 will go on sale in Australia on February 7, and you'll be able to buy the space grey variant from Optus or Vodafone and the mocha brown variant from JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman. The recommended outright price for the Mate 9 will be $999 in Australia.
